The Sexton 100 event was the first round of the 2021 Mickey Thompson ARB QLD Offroad Racing Championships, 5-7th March 2021.

Thank you to Lucas Papaw Remedies and the Gympie Auto Sports Club for organising such a great event.

The 10km course consisted of some high speed straights, rocky sections and very dry and dusty conditions.

As Black Betty's debut event, we were excited to get off the start line and let her stretch her legs.

Our first lap out seeded us in 23rd position outright with a time of 7:43.07. Almost one minute behind the fastest buggy (6:44.46).

Heat two consisted of two consecutive laps with one minute intervals between race cars. Black Betty crossed the finish line in 14:47.37 minutes, knocking off 9 positions to sit 14th outright.

Heat three consisted of a single lap of the 10km course. Conditions were hot, dry and dusty but Black Betty was performing well. She finished the day with a lap time of 7:02.28, 11th position outright and 3rd in class.

We were very happy with Black Betty's performance on the first day of racing. Despite a hard knock to the front left wheel, there was no major mechanical failure and she was ready for another day on the track.

Sunday session consisted of two heats, two consecutive laps each. Black Betty was the 6th car past the checked flag with a time of 14:05.53. Driver and navigator desperate to break into the 6 minute a lap time. Rocky conditions damaged a rear tyre which lead to a wheel change / rotation between heats. The front tyres were rotated and fitted to the rear and new tyres fitted to the front. She was ready for her last heat of the event.

Our lucky streak took a turn on the final lap of the final heat of the day. Black Betty took on a flat right rear which required a track side wheel change. Later coming to realise this was the tyre that had previously experienced the knock. With a disappointing final heat time of 24:42.60, we managed to stay in the competition, finishing 25th outright, 3rd in unlimited class and accumulated 29 outright championship points and 103 class championship points.

Congratulations to all the competitors, especially to Clayton Chapman (1st position outright and 1st position unlimited class) and Brett Comiskey (2nd position unlimited class).

A very big THANK YOU to the race organisers, timing officials, stewards and recovery crew.

Special THANKS to our sponsor Buderim Air and our race Team and support crew for all your hard work over the weekend and weeks leading up the event.

What a great start to the year!
